Fall 2012

This is a collaborative work with another artist (Elizabeth Crowe). She makes pots and I make purses. The glaze is a crystalline glaze and I'm very pleased with the results. I think I'll do a few more tests, but I might actually put it on one of my purses.

Spring/Summer 2011

I've been in and out of the studio this summer working on some purses and shoes for an upcoming exhibition at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah. I'll have about 9 purses and a couple pairs of shoes displayed there from July 16th-August 31st.

Winter 2011

Here is one of the newest ones. I've incorporated my logo on this one. It's an L & K layered.

I made molds for a pair of shoes. I've been experimenting with design and glazes on the shoes. The idea is to have a different pair of shoes for each purse.

What you see below are various works made out of clay. I've decided to focus on the style of Trompe L'Oeil, which is French for 'Trick the eye.' My goal is to make purses and shoes so real to life that you cannot tell they are clay. It's taken me hours and hours of practice to improve my skill. I really enjoy the attention to detail it takes to create these works.

I chose purses as my focus at first because I wanted to copy leather and cloth materials. I soon realized that there are more to purses than just being an accessory. Purses can tell a story about the woman who owns it. Not just what's inside, but what it looks like on the outside. Women spend thousands of dollars on them. Why? Status? Nothing better to spend a thousand dollars on? To own something beautiful? I don't know. Personally, I carry around a canvas bag as my purse. I think that it probably tells more about me than I'm willing to admit.
